Disappointment as no Grotto at the Grosvenor Garden Centre
30/11/2008 by admin.
We were very disappointed yesterday when we went to see Father Christmas arrive with his reindeer at the Grosvenor Garden Centre in Chester. In past years we have watched Father Christmas arrive then have dashed inside to visit him in his Grotto (my children described it as the best Grotto there is).
But this year there is no Grotto, just the reindeer (who sadly looked very frightened and were being controlled by what looked like the ‘heavy mob’) and, we were told, storytime with Santa which will start in December.
We were very disappointed - especially as I had rang up to check that they were doing the same this year as previous years and was told ‘yes’.
However all was not lost as we headed back to Wrexham - as we had heard that Father Christmas had been spotted in Debenhams - and yes there he was - larger than life and very merry! Completely taken in by him, my two little children had a chat and a present and went home happy.
Yes I know, I know, why did I go to Chester in the first place? - Everyone knows that Wrexham is soooo much better than Chester now!

Stir Up Sunday
28/11/2008 by admin.
The last Sunday before Advent - also known as Stir-Up Sunday - is traditionally the time to get the Christmas pudding made, allowing plenty of time for the flavours to develop before it is enjoyed on Christmas Day.
Advent Sunday is the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day. This is equivalent to the Sunday nearest to St Andrew’s Day, 30 November, which this year falls on November 30th itself.
It is the day when the family gathers around the kitchen table to start making the season’s Christmas pudding. Every member of the family must give the pudding a stir and make a secret wish. Read more and find a Christmas pud recipe here…

Christmas crafts, gifts and business opportunities
23/11/2008 by admin.
I organised a fundraising event which took place yeaterday at St Giles School - it was to raise funds for the school. There was a lovely Christmas atmosphere and visitors were not only able to buy some very pretty and unusual gifts, they were also able to pick up tips on craft making and jewellery making. Two of the stallholders - Forever Living and Avon - were also able to offer business opportunities to people wanting to set up their own business working from home (with zero set up costs). For anyone who visited the craft fair yesterday, if you want to contact any of the stallholders - or if anyone is looking for an unusual gift - I’ve added details of some of the stallholders at www.wrexhamstallholders.co.uk.

Father Christmas spotted in Wrexham!
18/11/2008 by admin.
Now I haven’t seen him myself (yet) but I’m told by a very reliable source that father Christmas has got his own very cosy room in Debenhams in Wrexham. Apparently it’s a lovely set up with cosy chair, fireplace, tree etc and he’s happy to see any children that pop by. I can’t remember the exact price but it was around about the £5 mark - will post again when I find out more. Has anyone else spotted Santa in Wrexham?

A special offer from Halfords in Wrexham?
18/11/2008 by admin.
I went into Halfords in Wrexham this week to buy a bike. Enticed in by the ‘£20 worth of accessories free with every bike bought’ I was hoping to take my bike home with me, along with my free goodies. But that was not to be.
Apparently, presumably to make transportation easier, bikes delivered to Halfords from the manufacturer are not fully made up, they have to have the gears, brakes, wheels etc added instore. In the run up to Christmas they are of course getting more bike orders, and they haven’t got a stock of ready made up bikes and are having to make them up as the orders come in, with customers getting on average a three week wait. Haven’t they ever heard of preparation? You’d think that they would have anticipated the extra Christmas sales and got a load of the bikes made up ready.
I was told that I wouldn’t be able to have my bike until 12th December, and being as I’d set my heart on this particular bike I agreed. But…even though I was paying in full for the order they told me that I couldn’t have the £20 worth of free accessories because I wasn’t collecting the bike before the 22nd November. But I wanted to take the bike today I argued… it’s not my fault that you can’t put it together in time…
It wasn’t until we overheard another member of staff on the phone to an angry customer wanting to know why their bike wasn’t ready yet, and being placated by the words ‘Sorry for the delay, yes it will be after the special offer ends now but yes, OK, we’ll still let you have the free accessories’ that they relented and let me have the free goods.
So dear Halfords, I suggest that it’s not a good idea using special offers to lure people in if you can’t supply the goods - either honor the offer or take the signs down.
