Cost of Weddings soar past £20k
The cost of getting married has soared to £20,273 - up £5,530 in five years according to a new survey. The results found that couples are refusing to cut back on their big day and are splashing out on lavish dos. Often inspired by celeb weddings, they blow an average £7,724 on guests, £2,529 on venues, £3,220 on honeymoons and £4,639 on food and drink.
The online survey of 1,500 brides-to-be also found couples pay £839 for a photographer, £400 on a video, £308 on wedding cars and £138 on stationary. Entertainment, dresses, flowers, rings and stag and hen nights are among a huge list that bump up the bill further.
Colette Harris, editor of You and Your Wedding magazine, said: “There’s no doubt big celeb events inspire Britain’s brides to think about creating unforgettable weddings.”
