New opposition to plans for Wrexham’s Racecourse

Plans to develop the Racecourse and boost Wrexham FC with an injection of cash have run into opposition. Both Rhosddu and Offa community councils have objected to the plans on a number of grounds, the main one being that only four parking spaces would be allocated for more than 300 NEWI student rooms. Despite this Wrexham’s chief planning officer Lawrence Isted recommends the proposals are passed because many students will not own their own cars. Read more here.

Wrexham Menswear shop has links to 550 year old ship

Have made a note in my diary to research the Off the Cuff Menswear building in Wrexham. The building is beautiful inside and it’s beams date back 550 years. They are believed to be from a recycled ship. Look in the album on this ad for some pictures.

Time to downshift…

Downshifting Week runs from Saturday 19th - Friday 25th April 2008 and aims to inspire individuals, companies, children and schools to live simpler, happier lives and be kinder to the environment at the same time. Suggestions include very practical ideas such as eliminating non-essential purchases, cook a meal from local and seasonal ingredients, or finding alternatives to the TV for an evening. For more info take a look at http://www.downshiftingweek.com.

Silly fly-tipping fools

Only fools fly-tip. Especially when there’s an official dump not that far away. Lazy and inconsiderate are words that also spring to mind. But the lazy, inconsiderate fools that dumped a load of rubbish at Erddig over the weekend excelled themselves. Along with the washing machine, vacuum cleaner, kitchen units etc were some bags of rubbish. Lots of letters fluttering in the breeze… complete with name, address and phone number…Fools.

Be the best…

Training is needed to stay the best. There is always something new to learn, some ability that has become dulled that needs honing, something that has been forgotten that needs bringing back into play.

If you talk down to people to tell them how to climb the ladder you are on, they can only reach as high as your feet. If they want to go on upwards, they will start trying to push you off to take your place on the top rung.

People are capable of training beyond their own ability. If this were not true then every sports star would have a coach who could outperform him. The relationship between coach and performer is also very special. Do you ever see a sports star holding out his racquet to the coach and saying “All right, if you are so clever you do it!” Why not? Partly because the coach is detached and poses no threat or competition.

Coca-Cola cures…

I never liked pop very much but recently acquired a taste for Coca-Cola after a doctor told me that flat Coca-Cola is good for settling upset tummies. According to this article it has other uses too
